Begin your journey to Kohima, the picturesque capital of Nagaland, passing through Assam’s scenic green plains and renowned tea gardens. As you reach Kohima, which is nestled across multiple Eastern Himalayan hills, check in to your hotel and relax, preparing for tomorrow’s exciting tour of the Hornbill Festival.

Day 02: Kohima – Hornbill Festival Ground – Kohima
Today, visit Kisama Heritage Village for the vibrant opening ceremony of the Hornbill Festival, known as the ‘Festival of Festivals.’ This celebration is a tribute to Naga culture, tradition, and heritage, with lively performances, crafts, and local art. Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the opening festivities and capture unforgettable moments through your camera lens.

Day 03: Kohima – Hornbill Festival Ground – Kohima
Return to the Kisama Festival grounds for another exciting day at the Hornbill Festival. Today’s highlights include traditional tribal performances and enactments that showcase the region’s rich history and culture. You’ll also get a chance to sample unique Naga delicacies. In the evening, visit the Kohima Cathedral, a beautiful church designed in the traditional Naga house style, offering a unique departure from the usual Gothic architecture.

Day 04: Kohima Local Tour – Khonoma – Kohima
After breakfast, set out for Khonoma, Asia’s first green village, and home to a World War II cemetery, a poignant reminder of one of history’s most brutal battles. Explore Khonoma’s serene landscapes, the historic village ambiance, and gain insight into the local way of life and efforts towards sustainable living.

Day 05: Kohima to Mokokchung
Today, continue deeper into Nagaland towards Mokokchung. Known for its breathtaking natural beauty, this region is home to the Ao Naga tribe, whose legends, stories, and heroism are interwoven into the area’s heritage. Spend the day learning about the culture, customs, and captivating stories of this region.

Day 06: Mokokchung – Guided Tour of Naga Villages – Mokokchung
Embark on a guided tour of Ungma and Mokokchungbasti villages, where local tribes reside. Your guide will share intriguing stories and insights into the customs, folklore, and daily life of the villages as you stroll through their narrow lanes, admiring the vibrant village life and local traditions.

Day 07: Mokokchung to Longwa
Today’s journey takes you to the remote village of Longwa, located in the Mon district and known for its history as a head-hunter territory. Far from modern conveniences, the simplicity and resilience of Longwa’s people offer a unique perspective on happiness and contentment without modern luxuries like electricity.

Day 08: Longwa Village Tour
This day brings an exciting opportunity to meet the last surviving head-hunters. Engage with them through local guides to learn about the taboos, traditions, and past customs of this fierce community. Later, visit the palace of the Angh (king) of the Konyak Nagas, which straddles the border between India and Myanmar. Witness the distinct boundary pillar that separates the two countries, and marvel at the cultural uniqueness of this border village. After a fulfilling day, return to your accommodations for rest.

Day 09: Longwa to Jorhat
After exploring Nagaland’s hidden gems, journey back to the plains of Assam. Upon reaching Jorhat in the afternoon, delve into the history of the Ahom Kingdom, which thrived along the Brahmaputra River from the 13th century and maintained its sovereignty for over 600 years, withstanding the Mughal advances into Northeast India.

Day 10: Jorhat to Guwahati
Concluding your incredible journey, travel from Jorhat back to Guwahati. Enjoy scenic photo breaks en route to capture the natural beauty of Northeast India. Arrive in Guwahati by evening to catch your flight home, departing with a collection of unforgettable memories from your Nagaland adventure.
